Natalia Balytsky, MD

Natalia Balytsky is an Anesthesiologist and pain management specialist with over 15 years experience. Studying medicine in Ukraine, Natalia transitioned to the Unites States to the University of Pittsburg and University of California San Francisco where she was a clinical fellow. Prior to joining the Sfmmg team, Natalia worked at Bay Area Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine as a pain management specialist. Natalia brings valuable knowledge and experience to join our team of specialists and surgeons.


 

Richard Fernandez, MD

Dr. Fernandez graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a B.A. in economics & received his medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1991. His training continued at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco and focused in physical medicine & rehabilitation. In 1996, he directed the Orthopedic & Back Pain Centre clinic in EI Paso, Texas & later pursued academic interests at the University of California at San Francisco's Department of Occupational & Environmental Medicine in 1997. Since then, he continues to explore the complementary roles of acupuncture, joint mobilization, & spinal intervention.


 

Roy Kim, MD

Roy Kim, MD is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons. His pursuit of technical excellence has earned him the respect of colleagues and applause from his patients.

Roy Kim, MD holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, an MD from the University of Pittsburg and has performed general surgery residency at University of Chicago Medical School as well as a Plastic Surgery residency at Wayne State University before moving to San Francisco.


 

Sean Moore, MD

Originally a Bay Area native, Dr. Moore left California to obtain a BA from Princeton University and an MD from the Tulane School of Medicine, where he also completed his Psychiatry Residency, and served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in Anesthesia Pain Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. He subsequently has worked for both the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Dr. Moore is currently triple board certified in Psychiatry, Pain Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. In his military service he has been deployed to the Middle East and continues to serve in the Army Reserves. He is grateful to live in the great city of San Francisco close to friends and family.


 

Vanessa Ortiz, MD

Dr. Ortiz knew she wanted to be a physician since she was 12 years old. She grew up in Silicon Valley, attending U.C. Berkeley for her undergraduate education and then U.C. Davis for her medical training before completing her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University in 1997. She is Board Certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

Prior to moving to Integrated Pain Management, she worked in various practice settings, including private physiatry practice at Los Altos Spine and Sports for the past 15 years and private physiatry practice at Mills Peninsula Hospital in San Mateo prior to that. Her practice primarily focuses on the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of spine conditions and spine pain management, with an emphasis on performing electro-diagnostic studies (Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Studies).  Her biggest job satisfaction comes from improving a patient’s functional ability, which ultimately leads to improving the quality of life for her patients.  She especially enjoys working alongside her associate, Dr. John Welsh, who she trained with at Stanford and who she has known for over 20 years.

During her spare time, Dr. Ortiz enjoys traveling with her husband and two children, playing classical piano and trekking through the Napa Valley wine country with friends. She is fluent in Spanish.


 

William R. Campbell, DO

Dr. Campbell is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon treating Worker’s Compensation and Private Health Insurance patients in the Bay Area since 2007.  Treatment offices include, San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento. With thousands of cases worth of experience, Dr. Campbell brings a well-honed skill set to those patients in need of surgical treatment for their shoulder, knee and general Orthopedic injuries.  However, every patient is different, and many times good results can be obtained without heavy medication, aggressive treatment or surgery. Dr. Campbell derives a great deal of satisfaction working with his patients as they choose from the various treatment options that best match their goal. Dr. Campbell is almost universally accepted in all the various MPN’s (including the recently updated SCIF/Harbor Health Systems) as well as Private Health Insurance carriers (including Brown & Toland). Dr. Campbell is also an Orthopedic Q.M.E. and has been recognized as AME on multiple occasions by firms such as Ratto, Hanna Brophy, Boxer & Gerson, Laughlin Falbo and others.  Practicing within the worker’s compensation arena for almost a decade has produced a keen understanding of the various issues surrounding AOE/COE, TTD, disability rating, apportionment, future medical care and the various other complexities of the med-legal evaluation process. Dr. Campbell maintains several Med-Legal Offices (see below). Dr. Campbell attended medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic medicine. Later, he completed his orthopedic surgical residency in the Michigan State University system, and fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Angela Giertych, PT, DPT, CHWC

Dr. Angela Giertych earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of California San Francisco and San Francisco State University and a certification in Health and Wellness Coaching from Wellcoaches. ​Through ​her clinical training and diverse patient care experiences​, she developed  a passion for empowering people through intrinsic motivation and the use of mindful behaviors for  lifelong wellness. She values the power of​ empathic communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and courageous presence to uplift​ patients and providers alike. ​Angela champions well-being by illuminating patient strengths so they can overcome daily challenges and feel their very best. Looking toward creative innovations for the future of chronic pain care, she promotes impactful wellness solutions through personalized health management technologies. 


 

Kay Kovitprakornkul, PT, DPT, OCS

Kay Kovitprakornkul graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s University in 2019 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Prior to IPM, Kay spent two years working in hospital-based outpatient orthopedics, treating a wide variety of conditions from acute to chronic and populations from adolescent to geriatric. She graduated from the Kaiser NorCal Orthopedic Physical Therapy residency in 2021 in pursuit of becoming a clinical specialist and advancing her management skills of musculoskeletal conditions. Kay enjoys collaborating within an interdisciplinary team to treat the whole person and building self-efficacy in patients to return to activities they enjoy. In her free time, Kay enjoys staying active through hiking, weightlifting, yoga, and rock climbing, as well as spending quality time with family and friends.


 

Michael Johnston, L.Ac

Michael Johnston graduated from the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in 2000. He obtained his Master of Science in Oriental Medicine and was board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine the same year. Upon graduation, Michael moved to Chengdu, China to continue his studies at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After returning to the U.S. Michael obtained board certification in California in 2003. Michael has worked in several medical venues including private practice, group practice, hospital settings, and community clinics. He has over 18 years of clinical experience with special interest in pain reduction and pain management using acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. His philosophy has always been one of treating the whole patient. He utilizes all aspects and modalities Chinese medicine has to offer in order to tailor the most effective treatment plan for each patient. He is the co-author and editor of 5 publications. In his career, Michael has practiced in New York, Colorado, and California. Michael resides in Santa Rosa, CA with his wife and two boys.


 

Sonja Kari Murphy, AMFT

Sonja Kari Murphy, AMFT is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and trained Art Therapist. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts, and her Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University. Sonja has worked with individuals with chronic pain as part of an interdisciplinary Acute Rehabilitation team at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Sonja has experience supporting clients with emotional adjustment to stroke, traumatic brain injury, terminal illness, diabetes, and pain, as well as treating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and substance use. As an art therapist, Sonja believes creative expression can help give voice to experiences that words alone cannot describe. Sonja is passionate about providing a supportive therapeutic relationship and integrating creativity into the healing process.


 

Tom Kowalski OTR/L

Tom Kowalski OTR/L has practiced for over 4 decades. He holds full licensure in California with additional board certification as a Hand Therapist Certified. He has published and presented 35+ peer reviewed papers and videos in and at domestic and international meetings and journals. 

His resume includes being at UCLA Med Center as the Hand Rehabilitation Coordinator in the Microsurgical Reimplantation Service.

Currently, his specialization is in Functional Capacity Evaluations.
