Kairav Shah, MD, MPH is a board-certified psychiatrist with additional board certification in pain medicine, bringing a unique, integrated approach to mental health and chronic pain care. He has extensive experience treating complex psychiatric conditions, co-occurring pain disorders, and substance use issues across academic medical centers, hospitals, and private practice settings.
Dr. Shah completed his psychiatry residency from Columbia University’s Harlem Hospital Center where he served as a chief resident and subsequently, a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine from the department of anesthesiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle. He also holds a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from The University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston.
Over the course of his career, he has served as an attending psychiatrist in emergency psychiatry, in-patient behavioral unit, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and outpatient settings, as well as an assistant professor at The University of Texas McGovern Medical School. His clinical interests include mood/anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, addiction psychiatry, and the intersection of mental health and chronic pain.
Dr. Shah is actively involved in teaching, research, and professional leadership, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations. He has also served as a peer reviewer for multiple international journals. His approach to care is compassionate, evidence-based, and focused on helping patients achieve meaningful and lasting improvements in their quality of life.
When he isn’t busy helping his patients, he enjoys playing tennis, soccer, biking and travelling.
